Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament – Chicago, IL

Ever since watching “The Cable Guy” years ago, I have wanted to see what Medieval Times was all about!  I finally got my chance a couple of months ago, when my husband and I made a trip to Chicago.  We waited for a coupon (which we saw on their actual website) before booking our tickets and even with a seating upgrade, got a pretty sweet deal.  We weren’t really sure what to expect, but were very impressed by the whole outing.

First off, we got there right away when they opened their doors for the show (seating is 1st come 1st served within the section type you purchase).  Even though we arrived over an hour before the show started there were plenty of things to see and do before sitting down.  There are cute themed souvenir stands, and some of the characters were walking around that you could take pictures with.  We got to see the falcon before the show, and the King came out for a “Knighting” ceremony for some of the kids who were celebrating their birthdays.

Once it was time to enter the dining area/arena, we were seated in the front row in the Blue Knight’s section(glad we got there early)!  They even had blue banners at our seats so we could wave them to help cheer for our Knight.  Other fancier banners and light up souvenirs were available to purchase as well.

The dinner show was fantastic.  There was a lot of cool lighting/special effects and several occasions where fog/smoke added to the show.  Dinner was served quickly, and it’s true what they say… no utensils!  Good thing they had nice thick napkins and a moist towelette on our plates too!  There were several courses to dinner and it was very filling.  They had either a meat or vegetarian option, I didn’t see what the vegetarian meal looked like, but the meat one was very good and some people ended up getting take out boxes for their left overs.  The waiter was in character, and made the event even more entertaining.

Throughout the show, there were competitions between the Knights, a flight of the falcon, and gorgeous dressage performances by the horses.  It was a fun night out, and very different from anything I’ve gone to before!  The other locations of Medieval Times are: Atlanta, GA – Buena Park, CA – Dallas, TX – Myrtle Beach, SC – Toronto, ON – Baltimore, MD – Lyndhurst, NJ – Orlando, FL

The Chicago (Schaumburg) location is pretty close to an IKEA store, which came in handy for us!  We wanted to be sure we got to Medieval Times early enough but since traffic was lighter than we expected we had a couple of hours to explore the area.  So, what better way to spend a couple hours than wander through IKEA :)

We had such a great night at Medieval Times, and hopefully will get there again someday!
