Pioneer Park: Fairbanks, Alaska

While we were in Fairbanks, we did a quick google search for things to see and do there, and Pioneer Park was high on the list!  So, we headed over there to check it out with the hour we had to spare.

Not knowing really what to expect, we thought it was pretty cool.  We got there coincidentally right when they opened, so the streets were pretty empty, but the park had a lot of people in it by the time we left.  It was like a stroll back in time through a little town, with lots of neat things to see.

We walked casually through the park, took photos, but didn’t stop in any of the museums.  Though they did look interesting (I’m a sucker for museums :) ).

And a carved salmon… we had to read the sign twice, since we assumed it said not to climb on the salmon… but nope!  You can ride the salmon at your own risk :)  We each went up on the salmon for a photo, there are even little steps to help you climb up.

We had a nice time walking through the park.  There were several cute shops, concession stands, and museums (some of which had fees).  We only spent about an hour at the park, however it would be a fun place to hang out longer, especially if you have children.  There were a lot of younger kids on bikes and roller blades and it’d be a great place to burn off some energy.  As an adult, looking at all the cool historic buildings and equipment was neat too.  Overall a pretty unique & fun atmosphere!
