Twig’s Beverage – Shawano, Wisconsin

Alright, if you have been following along with my recent posts, you’d know I loved visiting Shawano County.  From the beautiful barn quilts throughout the county (with a visit to Gresham where there are so many along Main Street!) and the murals on businesses in Wittenberg (WOW), to my accommodations in Shawano, the two days and one night stay in Shawano County were great.

BUT, if you are planning on visiting Shawano, Wisconsin…. here is my #1 favorite thing!

#1 MUST VISIT in Shawano

Not only does Twig’s Beverage bottle Sun Drop, as well as their own delicious sodas, but they also have an awesome little museum!  I am a huge sucker for museums to begin with but this one is seriously so cool.  Tons of old signs and artifacts, as well as information about the products and bottling process throughout the museum.  There is a wide variety of visual displays, from a walk down an old city street where you can get a glimpse at what businesses looked like “back in the day”, to old bottling equipment, to a great video of the bottling process these days.  At the back of the museum, there are windows where you can sometimes see bottling in action!  Nothing was being bottled during our visit, but I’m sure it’s pretty cool to see the process when the line is going.

The ORIGINAL Sun Drop Formula

OH, and you can go there to check out THE ORIGINAL SUN DROP FORMULA!?!?  Do you know the secret?  Pretty great, if I do say so myself.

In addition to all the cool exhibit areas, they offer free samples!  You can try whatever you want, and how ever many you want.  I tried 3 flavors:  Farmer’s Brew Butterscotch Rootbeer, Rhu-berry, and Peach Cobbler.  I was told the first two were the more popular flavors to try.  They were all delicious, and I was seriously surprised at just how perfectly each flavor reflected its name.  The peach cobbler drink had so much depth to it, it really felt like you were eating peach cobbler, pretty crazy.

After our samples, we finished up looking around the museum.  They have a mini theater set up where you can watch a video (~10min long) about the history of the company, which is worth checking out for sure.

The Gift Shop

Finally… the museum gift shop.  Yup, pretty much everything you could ever dream of with the Sun Drop logo is inside this gift shop.  They also have bottles of soda for sale.  My Mom & I each ended up buying a 6 pack of bottles.  You can mix and match the flavors and fill your own boxes!  Perfect souvenir, and great gift for someone who didn’t get to come along on your outing!  The soda and museum were just so cool, that after we left and got to our car we decided that two 6 packs just weren’t enough.  So, we went back and picked out 6 more bottles and an awesome glass mug to tie us over until we return again in the future.  Fun gift shop with a great selection and very reasonable prices

Whether you call it pop, soda, soda-pop or something else, a stop off at Twig’s Beverage is a MUST when you’re in Shawano!

Disclaimer: I received some “Chamber bucks” to spend on food etc. at local businesses while on my trip to Shawano County, and had a discounted rate for overnight accommodations.  I picked my own itinerary based on suggestions from Shawano Country Tourism.  All opinions are my own.
