First of all, if you haven’t been to Door County, Wisconsin, you are missing out! Summertime is a beautiful time to visit. There are so many unique restaurants, and activities, and we can’t forget about all of the wineries! Be warned though, it is a very touristy place, so be prepared for lines on popular dates/times.
If you do make it to Door County, a family tradition of mine is to head over to Al Johnson’s for lunch or dinner.
Yes, there are GOATS that graze on the roof top of the restaurant (weather permitting). The goats are pretty adorable, and seeing them on the roof never gets old.
Gorgeous Scandinavian items that are great to give as gifts or to treat yourself. It’s also a fun way to pass the time while waiting in line to eat at the restaurant.
I actually usually eat vegetarian, but whenever we go to Al Johnson’s I have to get the Swedish Meatballs! Delicious. And don’t forget the lingonberries. I haven’t ventured much from this typical order, but may have to try some other things in the future :)
I think some of the neighborhood has changed over the past years? But if you’re lucky enough to get a table near the windows, you can see the water (across the street), which is beautiful.
The meatball video is on replay in the lobby. Pretty interesting to learn how they’re made.
Lots of neat Scandinavian decorations, and the employees wear versions of traditional Scandinavian outfits. Warning, the dining room is a bit crowded with tables, but at least it shortens the wait to get a table.
Door County has so many awesome activities that are nearby the restaurant that you can check out before or after you eat!
Be sure to plan your visit to Door County soon!
