While visiting Cape Town, we went to Fairview for a wine and cheese tasting. It was fabulous. We were in a bit of a rush because we were trying to get to Table Mountain yet before they closed for the day but still wanted to try to fit everything in (we missed the last ride up by a couple of minutes! Oh well).
I’ve been to a few wine tastings before, but never one with cheese. It was SO HARD to wait for the paired wine before eating the cheese haha, especially since all the cheese was set out ahead of time. We learned a lot about the process of wine making, and each bottle we tried. The hostess was very knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions. My husband and I were already talking about bringing wine home with us from the trip and this was the perfect opportunity to pick something we knew we’d like! So, since we have very different tastes we each picked our favorite and ended up buying 2 bottles of wine and some cheese. The wine was surprisingly reasonable in price, and they even wrapped it and packaged it in a suitcase friendly cardboard container for us.
We ate the cheese during our trip, and although it took a lot of restraint, we did bring both bottles of wine home. The bottles went in my suitcase, and they made the looooong multi-flight journey home completely unharmed! We like to save wine from trips for a special occasion, can’t wait to have it again! After we do drink the wine, we also like to save the corks and bottles. We have a travel display similar to this: 7 Gypsies Artist Letter Block Tray, 12 by 10-Inch, Brown Stain where we place little souvenirs from our trips, such as the corks.
Here are a few pictures from around the grounds:
Our trip to Cape Town was fairly quick, so we didn’t get to see as much (or as in-depth) as I would have liked. So if we were to go back again, I’d love to take in more of the scenery around the vineyard and more leisurely enjoy the restaurant or sample more wine.
