A little piece of me has always wanted to go sky diving. I’ve gone back and forth on it, and even had different places & packages picked out but never went ahead and booked anything. Will I some day? Who knows… BUT, when I saw videos and heard about INDOOR skydiving, I knew I had to check it out! I don’t know how similar it is to the real deal, but let me tell you about my experience at iFLY in Rosemont, IL.
My husband and I booked the “Spread Your Wings for Two” package which at the time included two flights and a video clip for each of us. We got to the building early, and I was excited but also slightly nervous not knowing what to expect.
When we checked in for our flights they asked us if we wanted to:
Basically this is where the instructor holds onto you and you fly in circles up really high in the wind tunnel, and then back down a couple times. We went ahead and added it.
Nerves still high, we sat down and watched people ahead of us. They looked like they were having fun! Our group was called, and we went into another room to learn the hand signals, appropriate flight positioning, and of course watch a safety video. When that was done everyone suited up with a jumpsuit, eye protection, ear plugs, and a helmet. Then the group lined up and started the flights one by one.
…but it was just about right. I’ll be honest, my muscles started getting tired from holding the flight position after awhile. On our 2nd flight, the high flight was worth adding on, but next time I probably would skip it. The wind tunnel was pretty strong when flying low so I preferred just flying in the middle.
…BUT next time I’d pay a little extra for the helmets they rent with the face shield. I think the high flight would be more enjoyable with that extra protection. Also, my husband had an issue wearing contacts on his first flight. His goggles were a bit loose, and he actually lost a contact while in the wind tunnel, so that other helmet looks like it’d be easier on the eyes!
Post flight photo!
Afterwards we got certificates, and could pick which video clips (our 1st or 2nd flight) that we wanted as part of our package. The videos were emailed to us, which was pretty slick!
Indoor skydiving is not recommended for people with certain medical conditions, so be sure to discuss with your doctor ahead of time.
