First off, the cheese. is. AMAZING. According to their website, a good time to view the cheese making process is around 8:30 am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Showing up right around 8:30 am on a Friday it’s hard not to get hungry after seeing ALL. THE. CHEESE. There is a small section with other “local” items (team themed merchandise, honey, syrup, etc.), and samples of cheeses to try on the counter tops.

Watching cheese curds being packaged, is quite mesmerizing, but don’t forget to…

There is so much that goes into cheese making, and it’s fascinating to see all the pieces of equipment used, learn how different cheeses are made (curds vs. softer cheeses vs. firmer, etc.), and why certain cheeses look the way they do (think Munster cheese with the colorful edges).

After concluding the tour, a sample of FRESH WISCONSIN CHEESE CURDS and other cheeses await!

Yup. This is where it is at. Plus, you may even get a Union Star paper hat which is super cute for photo ops.

The factory itself is quite small, but the knowledge they share on the tours, and observing the process of cheese making definitely makes Union Star Cheese Factory a “must visit” when you’re in the area! Be sure to stock up on delicious cheese curds, and remember that bags of squeaky, fresh, cheese curds are great for “just because” gifts as well!

Cheddar, Gouda, Brie, Colby, Munster… What’s your favorite type of cheese?

If you love cheese, you will also want to check out Mars Cheese Castle!
