Ring Road roadtrip! 8 day itinerary – Day 6

Silfra Snorkel Tour

• ~45 minute drive from Selfoss
• Snorkel between two continental tectonic plates!
• Dress in layers, and follow the snorkel company recommendations for what to bring & wear
• Consider bringing your own underwater camera (charge your battery!  The cold water drains it much faster than normal)
• Some places offer digital pictures to purchase after your tour – ours did – and I’m glad I bought them!
• I hate being cold, like HATE it, but this was a great experience and I’m glad we went!
• After snorkeling, there is plenty to see and do at the park, you could easily spend several more hours exploring the Thingvellir National Park

Geysir

• ~45 minutes from Thingvellir National Park
• Famous for its boiling mud pits
• Once you walk a ways past the entrance, you’re likely to see a big crowd circled around a pit with cameras pointed and ready to shoot.  It’s likely you’ve reached Strokkur – the incredibly active geyser that erupts every few minutes.
• Nice giftshop across the street from the attraction

Gullfoss

• ~10 minutes from Geysir
• Another well known waterfall in Iceland
• Seriously pictures don’t do this one justice, I highly recommend a visit

Airbnb

• We stayed back in Selfoss for a second night, super convenient location

Local pool

• Most towns have a pool, and everyone talks about how you should check them out!
• Unfortunately the one night that we made time to go to the pool (and it was super close to our Airbnb) it happened to be closed for a holiday, so be sure to check ahead for schedules

Kerið

• We made a trip back out to the start of the Golden Circle once we found out the pool was closed
• This volcanic crater lake is well worth the visit
• There is a small entrance fee, but then you can walk along the rim on the crater, as well as take a stairway to the pool area and walk along there.
